My Crazy Broadcasting World

Yep, I'm a pretty busy girl.

Yikes!

I haven't blogged in a really long time. Words can't even express how busy I am - I know, that's no excuse. It's not that I'm putting it on the backburner, it's just that I forget all the time. I forget a lot of things, actually.

First things first - the senior project. Well, it's not exactly going according to my plans. Right now I'm not sure whether or not I want to include radio news in my career goals, but I am going to put an MP3 together anyway with a newscast from WKST and one from Titan Radio as well. Over break I'd like to send it to Amy Sasfai, a 2006 WC grad who is news directing in Meadville, and I would love to have some tips on how to make my Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts better despite my limitations.

What I really want to do for my senior project is create an e-portfolio with the work I completed at my internship. I wasn't planning on changing my career aspirations this year, but the more I became involved with media relations and marketing, the more I fell in love with it. I'd love to have other media relations professionals take a look at the portfolio and point my strengths and weaknesses out. I definitely want more experience in this field as well, and I would like to make as many contacts as possible.

Another thing I would like to do, just for my own benefit, is put together some of the work I've done for the Holcad. I've laid out dozens of pages, and I'd like feedback on how I can make them look better/more readable. I've also written three articles for this semester, and I did four last semester. I've received feedback from Jim Raykie, who is one of my professors and the Editor of the Sharon Herald, and that's been extremely helpful.

As far as searching for a job goes, I don't even know where to begin. I have a resume ready to send out, and I just want to send it to as many places as I can. As much as I want to work around this area, I know I might have to move away. There are actually a lot of opportunities as far as sporting teams and colleges go in and around PA and Ohio, but I'm definitely not counting on anything, especially because I only have one semester of experience with media relations.

I saw a notice online about the Pittsburgh Penguins internships in media and community relations and marketing, and I thought about applying. I kind of regret not doing it, because it's too late now. As far as I know, you must receive college credit to complete an internship with them as well, so doing one in the summer is probably out of the question. But I really want to concentrate on my duties as News Director for Titan Radio. I didn't take the position to do nothing with it.

So, that's about it. Tomorrow is my final day at FSN Pittsburgh and I am going to miss it SO much. Fortunately, I'm on the e-mail list so they can contact me to work at future events. That will be awesome!
